Reese's Story

Reese Ficklin has been a part of the East Baton Rouge Parish School District since she started Pre-K 3 at Audubon Elementary.  She aspires to become a future veterinarian.  Being a student in the East Baton Rouge Parish School District has kept Reese and her mother very busy.  Reese enjoys singing with my school choir,  gardening with the school's garden club, cheerleading, and volunteering in the school's community.  With hard work, Reese has spent the majority of her academic career as an A/B honor student.  She also was inducted into the National Honor Society in the third grade. She was blessed to be a part of the first Creme de la Rouge parish winter showcase, as she danced as a sweet little cupcake.  Reese also was a part of the East Baton Rouge School District gospel choir showcase, which really was truly amazing.  In her free time, she enjoys dancing with her Danity Stepper dance family, where she has currently worked her way up to the junior level team.

Even though she's just in the fifth grade, Reese values so many important things in my life.  One is to always be kind to others, because you never know what that person may be going through and how you can impact their life in a positive way. Thanks to her uncle Lamont Cole,  she has a strong spot in her heart for community service.  Each year, Reese watches him give back to a community where she attends school, which is an amazing sight to see.  As she gets older, Reese hopes to walk in his footsteps and keep the legacy going.  She also value never giving up.  Reese said that fourth grade was a challenging year for her.  She never knew math could be so hard. There were some days and nights that she just wanted to give up and throw in the towel. But, with the support of her mother, her tutor, and supportive teachers at her school she didn't give up on herself and was able to end the year successfully.  Reese is very proud of what she accomplished.  Reese wants her peers to know that if she can do it, you can do it too.

As a hard working dedicated student, Reese never thought that she would have the opportunity to represent her wonderful school as student of the year.  She would like to say thank God for all the blessings that He has poured into her life, because this is only the beginning.
